Curriculum
Cairn Hill Nature Preschool has a unique blended curriculum that is inspired by the principles of Waldorf education and nature-based education, and is informed by the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The CCSS include English language arts, mathematics, science and technology/engineering, history, social science and learning through the arts.
Each day at Cairn Hill Nature Preschool follows a nurturing and intentional rhythm. Mornings begin outdoors in the playground and garden before gathering for circle time filled with movement, music, and connection. Children then engage in hands-on literacy, science, and math activities that integrate songs, stories, and exploration of nature topics like soil, hibernation, and the water cycle. Daily tasks such as painting, baking, and cleaning build responsibility and creativity, while free play fosters social skills. After a healthy snack, children return to outdoor play, followed by lunch and rest for full-day students. This steady, balanced routine helps each child feel secure, purposeful, and connected to the world around them.
